Letham Amateurs (sponsored by Saints Social Club, Barossa Street. Tower Ridge Adventure Clothing. DRC Contracts)             The Tangies last weekend lost their first game in local competitions this season to Fairfield in the quarter final of the Perthshire Cup by five goals to three. The home team can have no complaints albeit they missed a penalty kick when the scores were level at two apiece. This was followed on Tuesday night when the same teams met in the first round of the Perth & District Cup played on the South Inch. Before a large crowd Letham took an early lead which they held to the interval. Fairfield equalised from a free kick early after the restart. However the visitors showed their class and finished comfortable winners by six goals to one. Tomorrow the team have a home league game against Rattray in which is likely to be the final game played on their grass pitch at Seven Acres. On Tuesday the team play St James in the semi- final of the North of Tay Cup being played at Glenesk Park, Dundee. This will be one of the biggest games in Letham’s long history when they hope to emulate or better the challenges previously met by Letham Juveniles in reaching semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup and losing finalists in the East of Scotland Cup way back in the 60’s and 70’s . Supporters wishing to travel to the game please contact Jon Kidd on 07783809049 to reserve a seat on the bus.
