St Johns (4) v Amateurs (5)
This game highlighted the club’s great tradition in cup ties and amid great excitement secured victory over great city rivals in the last minute of extra time. The result however hides the drama of the game. The tangerines were 3-0 up after half an hour. St johns fought back to make it 3-2, with their second goal appearing to be offside, only for us to notch a fourth just before the interval. After 60 minutes our centre half was sent off with the referee being conned by the St Johns player with our player totally innocent. Uproar at this awful decision resulted in more bookings. It was backs to the wall now and the team held out but St johns equalised at 4-4 with a minute of normal time remaining.
So into extra time and the team tiring and our goalie in pain after being severely mauled. First period we survived and so into the second period and the longer we held out we saw hope in a penalty shoot-out. But with a minute to go, in one of our few attacks, we scored the winner. Truly a remarkable performance. Pity the referee was not up to standard. It appears he was being assessed during the game We must wonder what marks he obtained out of 100 doubt if he got passed 20 it was a horror performance
